14C28N all the way. D2 is THE most overrated knife steel on the planet, with such big carbides that even custom makers (Dozier) can't get all that much better than chinese budget production knives (like Civivi). maybe KK and BBB could get something better out of it, but it's not worth the effort. D2 is way overrated because it's a tool steel It has pretty good wear resistant and makes for a good outdoor knife. VG-10 is similar but you get more toughness out of N690. Overall it's a middle of the pack steel made in Europe by Bohler. Personally I like 14C28N because it's easy to sharpen, so I guess it depends on your use. Essentially, Nitro-V is a modification of a well known and very good AEB-L knife steel with small amounts of Vanadium and Nitrogen to it. Both elements have very positive alloying effects on steel. Alternatively, you could say Nitro-V is 14C28N steel with added Vanadium. You can decide for yourself which one is closer.

Jul 25, 2021 · Best 8cr13Mov Knives in the Market. 8cr13mov is clearly a great stainless steel for making knives. While it does suffer on edge retention, it performs really well in hardness and toughness, as well as corrosion resistance and ease of sharpening. Overall, it performs beyond expectations for a budget knife.

Dec 18, 2023 · 14c28n is a great option for knives – as long as you’re using your knife for the right thing. This steel’s main feature is its high corrosion resistance, which makes it the perfect option for constant cutting and dealing with weak things. On the other hand, it’s not that good for heavy jobs.

Apr 13, 2018 · From what I understand, 14C28N was developed for knives. With the Nitrogen content, I don't experience the staining or spotting like I've seen with other steels. But, that's just me. I like that it holds a decent edge and that you can get it stupidly sharp fairly easy as compared to some other popular steels.
Jan 27, 2018 · Not a knife I'll use much, but it's awfully well made, and has an air of purpose to it. The steel turns out to be, you got it, Bohler N695. Blade, for instance, has a jimped thumbstud for one hand opening-milled integrally out of the blade. Not necessary, but pretty cool. Last edited: Jan 30, 2018.
